I was at his blogging workshop on Wednesday at Xscape. It was organized by Animax and there were a lot of people (I think the lady said there were about 50 people or so).

Some links to blogs of people who were there/I met:

Cavalock
Sugi
Gordonator
Tachikomatic Days: In Your Basement
Pyoro
Dark Mirage

And of course
Danny Choo

And oops, I still haven’t sent the pics to Sugi or gotten the stuff from Pyoro >_< (Sorry Pyoro, I was playing WoW when you came online so I didn't see it until way after you logged off!)

When I was there, I was thinking, damn, my friend who's all into internet marketing should have been there too (even if he has no interest in Danny Choo). So I will just recount some of the points that Danny came up with by starting with the summary of what he talked about.

Summary of Recommendations (last slide)
> Understanding Technology
> Embrace web2.0
> Continuous evolution
> Spend less time preparing content
>> Increases ROI (returns over investment)
> Share
>> Quoting source
> Never use blog to attack others
> Passion

Understanding Technology
Danny built his own website, played around with the web technology to make his site work for him, which included layout and so on. He recounts how he made use of the site to test out software and made his site an extension of his work. He placed his profile and portfolio of the things he did (including drawings, gundam models, etc) and created his own space online.

Embrace web2.0
He talked about social bookmarking and linking his site to web 2.0 places like Facebook, Flicker, LinkedIn, etc. He also talked about making exchanges with other sites and the importance of linking to other sites, particular similar sites which gets you their readers and vice versa.

Continuous evolution
He showed that his site went through many changes, starting as a place where he placed he displayed his gundam models and later added a few, sporadic updates. It was only later that he expanded to other things like more figurines and later to useful information about life in Japan, also updated more frequently. It is also important to try new things and see whether they work. For instance, he found that putting links to “Digg” the article didn’t really work so he took that away. And he took a lot of feedback from his readers about what they wanted and worked to revamp his site around his users’ needs.

Spend less time preparing content (Increases ROI)
Spend more time producing quality content rather than preparing it. For instance, if you take lots of pictures, there are software that can help you to re-orientate the pictures automatically.

Share (Quoting source)
Basically, no man is an island when it comes to blogs. More linking is good. Hahah. Of course, when you take content from others, remember to attribute the source. It just sucks not to do so. And you can get together with other bloggers and work together with them. It is also good to get a Creative Commons license especially if you produce a lot of original content.

Never use blog to attack others
Bad karma, man.

Passion
Write and do things you are passionate about. ‘Nuff said.

—

Okay, I got to go. Probably will write more if I have the time. Hahah.

So the only one who gave me a suggestion what to do for the next video was dong and she was all like, do something about guys! So er… Hahah. Maybe. Some ideas about what I can talk about:

Guys: Why I have no luck with them

Ans: I don’t know.

Suspicion #1: The guys I chase don’t like me back.
Suspicion #2: The guys who chased me I don’t like.
Suspicion #3: I think I’ll do better with a fling than someone long term because most guys, I notice, tend to want to settle down and have families (ie. kids) which I do NOT want.
Suspicion #4: I am destined to live a single life and I am actively making that happen. QA FTW.
Suspicion #5: I like the ones who are rather hopeless in terms of being anything beyond crush. Sigh.

Special note: My current crush is not into me so I won’t be bothering to chase him but he can be my beautiful eyecandy if he ever bothers to show up when we go for mutual gatherings.

Maybe I can talk about my sad, sordid history of failed love. Sigh, it’s probably too depressing a topic.

If I ever find some kind of boyfriend-guy, I’m not sure what I want from him. Hahah. I mean, love, affection sounds nice. Having someone special to do things with is good too. But hmm, beyond that… Don’t really know if I want to do anything more than that. Hahah. ashke = hopeless. And it’s not really like I need need need a guy but maybe it’ll just be nice bah? And maybe I have this goal in the back of my mind that it’s an experience I’d like to have before I die.

Do I just have low expectations or high expectations? I also don’t know. Hahah. Maybe Huey can help me psychoanalyze. HAHA.

I know she didn’t tag me to do it but I just wanted to, hahah.

People who have been tagged must write their answers on their blogs and replace any questions that they dislike with a new question formulated by themselves.

Tag five people to do this quiz; those who are tagged cannot refuse. These people must state who tagged them and are disallowed from tagging the person by whom they were tagged.

Do you have secrets?

I think so. Not many though. Actually, come to think of it, it can’t really be a secret if someone other than me knows it. So probably no.

Would you fall in love with a younger male/female?

I wouldn’t put it past me. Although I do find younger guys annoying at times. I’m not sure I like their fresh-eyed innocence either.

Do you enjoy going to school?

No, not really. I only really liked going to school before I came to Singapore.

What would you do with a billion dollars?

Set up trust funds for my parents and brother. Invest a portion. Buy a house. Maybe start my own book shop. Travel to South America and hopefully be able to visit Antarctica.

Would you love your ex-boyfriend/girlfriend again?
I don’t have an ex but if you ask me about my crushes, I think I’ll only love one again but the others nah.

Which is more blessed - loving or being loved?
Loving.

List out your 15 favourite songs.
ER. Too many. I will just list my recently played songs from last.fm:

Rise Against – Everchanging
“Weird Al” Yankovic – White & Nerdy
Spoon – Rhthm & Soul
Jason Mraz – Geek in the Pink
Aerosmith – Dream On
Mondo Grosso – Like No One’s Looking
Tanya Chua – Yellow
lacebo – Plasticine
信樂團 (SHIN) – One Night In 北京
Spoon – You Got Yr. Cherry Bomb

If you are single and your crush is attached, what would you do?

Forget it, find another one. Hahah.

Is there anything that has made you extremely happy?
Hmmm… Yes. But it didn’t last. Haiz.

What makes you angry?
Idiocy.

How would you see yourself in 10 years?

Staying on my own. Somewhere overseas.

Currently, who are the most important people to you?

Family and friends.

What is the most important thing in life?

Be happy.

If you could ask God just one question?
Supposing he is real, I would ask why he can see but won’t do anything about it if he’s all-powerful.

What is your favourite colour?

Blue, for the most part. But it seems I am partial to brown and green for my clothes recently.

Would you give your all in a relationship?

Depends on whether I think it’s worth ‘my all’. For instance, I doubt I’d tolerate too much bullshit.

What would be the first thing you say/shout when you reach the peak of Mount Everest?

WTH am I doing here?!

What are you doing now?

Surfing da web.

Do you prefer coffee or chocolate drinks?

Chocolate!

—

In other news, I was sidetracked yesterday night from writing my post about Danny Choo’s workshop. I think I’ll post it one of these days…

I realized what a problem my moving back and forth was. Thanks XZ for pointing it out. I tried talking faster but I think my brain churns too slowly when I speak. So hopefully with these presentation exercises I can think while I speak faster.

I notice that I often hit a blank wall at times when I am speaking, with or without a script. Is it just a matter of practice? I hope so.

So I’ll think of something else to talk about next time. Maybe I’ll recite a sonnet or something. Hahah.

I wanted to try planning my little vlog discussions so I came up with a few talking points. I didn’t really like how I sometimes enunciated badly or slurred my words. The dead air issue wasn’t as bad as I thought when I reviewed the videos and it’s been one of the things I’ve been self-conscious about in my presentation.

I was also digging out my book about presentation and I’ll try to follow some of the exercises in them in my next vlog post. Are there any suggestions as to the topic. I can’t just keep talk about gaming and jobs again. I’m definitely more comfortable with topics I’m familiar with but it would be good to have some practice doing a new theme or topic.

I did manage to finish the DK starting quests and it was so fun! I especially liked the 2nd last bit where you fly on a frost wyrm and ravage the Scarlet Crusade. I had some problems with control at first but once I zoomed out, I could see everything clearly. Woohoo!

I think I’ll give my DK a break this week and return to leveling on Borean Tundra. My brother is way ahead of me there but I will look forward to the gnomish airstrip place. I <3 gnomes!

That reminds me, guess what I named my DK? Pinkbringer. BWAHAHAH. It’s a male gnome, same hair as Aramaki but with a fancy beard. And of course, pink hair! A little pink evil, bwahahha… This is only the 2nd male gnome I’ve made…

I forsee myself severely neglecting my hunter and other alts from now on. Hahah.

Sigh, my brother is playing right now. On the other hand, I will have the game to myself tomorrow. Ah well, good things come to those who wait.

Too bad I don’t know anyone in RL playing on my WoW realm. But I guess my guildmates will be around.

I haven’t really finished the level 70 content on TBC but since Northrend is there…

Was talking to my friend and he was drawing parallels between DotA heroes and WoW classes. Heheh. Frost Mage = Crystal Maiden.

I want the new gear in Northrend!

Okay, that’s all. Other than wanting to play WoW, I sent out a bunch of job applications today. Hope some get back to me. Also, I finished Cow TD earlier this morning on Normal mode. It was a close thing because I survived with 1 life >_< I wonder how I'd do on Hard. I think I would have done better if I had used the cow bomb earlier in the game. Haiz. I finished on Easy with 27 lives to spare. That's quite a jump. >_<

Funnily enough, Huey got my postcard today and Gerald got his letter 2 days ago. Isn’t the UK further than Japan? Hahah. At least the stamp to the UK is slightly more expensive than to Japan.
