Although character name alliterations annoy me, “Pepper Potts” actually sounds kinda cute. Man, I liked her as a character (yes, she’s cute). Just too bad the megalomaniac in the desert died. Sigh. We need more megalomaniac villains around. Stark’s AIs and robots were also so very cuuuuute.

I’m not sure if you’re going to be turned off by my describing this superhero movie as ‘cute’ but it is. So there.

Some trivia I found as I googled Iron Man:

1) Stan Lee was the guy Tony Stark mistakes as Hugh Hefner. Didn’t realize he was so old, heh.
2) Pepper Potts married Happy Hogan (HAHAHA) in the comicverse. PP + HH.
3) Iron Man will be a trilogy.

—

On another note, I saw a girl zaogeng on the bus. She was sitting opposite me. Sigh. Girls, please be careful when you sit in a short skirt, not everyone wants to know you’re wearing neon green panties.

—

My room mate is packing her stuff and moving over to C block for the vacation stay. Sigh… I’m going to have to pack my stuff soon too. Um, but at least I don’t have as much stuff as she does =P

—

Finally, it rained and the night is cool again! YES!

My hall choir will be performing at the Singapore Conference Hall this coming Saturday. If anyone’s interesting in attending (it’s free), here are the details:

Time: 6.30pm to 7.45pm
Venue: Concourse, Level 1 Singapore Conference Hall

You just need to walk a short distance from Tanjong Pagar MRT station along Maxwell Road.

—

Other than that, I’ve been looking at my room and thinking, wow, I really don’t do much in the way of decorating it! For example, my room mate’s side has all kinds of things. She has pasted her favorite stars (all very /cm/) and has these cute little things she puts around her desk. In contrast, all I have on my board is a map of NUS, the vouchers we got from Billy Bombers (which is troublesome since I want to throw it away but still keep it in the unlikely case I go to it again) and my odd and even week timetables. The stuff on my desk are basically my computer (and its peripherals), some water containers, my books/papers and the stuff I use when showering.

I guess you can say my space is fairly ulitarian. Hell, it is. The only decorative item I have is probably a star hold-up clip. But it’s relegated to a hidden corner so that doesn’t really count.

What does it mean? Does it mean that I don’t feel any particular attachment to this room? Or perhaps I’m just too lazy to do anything about it?

But it’s also likely because I never really had the habit of decorating my room. The only time I tried to do so was when my secondary school forced us to subscribe to National Geographic (I wasn’t unhappy about that particular subscription though!) and each issue, it would have these really neat maps or charts. It was beautifully done so I thought it’ll be great to put them up on the wall. However, I found that blue tak sucks and it would fall of once in awhile.

Actually, when I was younger, one year we had these puppy and kitty and other cute animals calendar. I thought it was a real pity that we’d have to throw it away so I cut it up to fit the inside of my cupboard. I guess that kind of counts as decorating? Heheh. At home, I also have this beautiful Glinda (from the Wizard of Oz) Barbie that someone gave me and a pair of Korean dolls inside my glass cabinet. With those dolls are my class pictures from primary school and JC. I didn’t put up my secondary school ones since they can’t be put in photo frames.

—

Nothing much else to write about. I guess I’ll post it.

We had an odd floor (Block C, 1st & 3rd floor) supper tonight. Pizza! It was pretty good. The company was okay, I suppose but to the hungry ashke, that didn’t matter so. This one can always do with more food. I think the pizza was from some place called “Sparnino’s” or something Italian-ish like that. I didn’t care too much. It was food. *Gobblegobble*

They also handed us welfare packs with more food in it. A lot of junk food and I finished most of it. And I’m thinking, it’s probably not such a good idea to keep much food my room. I tend to eat too much without thinking. On the other hand, I sort of starve when I have no need to get out (eg. on free days, etc). Just too damn lazy to get my breakfast (usually) and lunch. I’m sure the caterer is making a loss from my sporadic visits to the dining hall.

Talking about food, one usually cannot get away without exercise. Except I live a completely sedentary life and exercise is something I avoid. It’s fun to go biking or take a long walk but usually I just spend my time in front of the computer. Maybe I’ll have to pay one day… One day anyway.

What has this got to do with my concert today?

Choir concerts are always a high. But somehow, today’s ended just too quickly. Sigh…

We had fun listening to the second half too. I saw Izzati sing with the KE7 Hall’s A capella group. She was great as usual. It was pretty funny seeing Eng Tat in KR’s Les Miserable medley. But that was really a great, great show. But Andrew and his friends topped it all off with their Indonesian song. It was really beautifully done. Sigh… Wonderful all in all…

I saw someone who looked a lot like KK. But I don’t know, it’s probably an illusion (delusion?) It’s like the picture I had up there, young people would tend to see the young lady first before ever seeing the old woman, and vice versa for old people. You see what you want to see. But it made me somewhat sad and I tried not to think about it. It’ll probably be too painful if I found out for sure if it was him, or if it was not. These feelings are made of such 矛盾 threads and such drama of Kierkegaardian proportions.

There has to be a reason why I still keep these feelings. What purpose does it serve? Sometimes, I feel as though my feelings exist outside of me, outside my control and are things I can only grapple with. It’s as though it’s some alien entity that has invaded me. Feelings can be such uncomfortable things.

My brain knows it’s over but my heart’s telling me no. Is that a song? Have I heard it before?

Well, although we were a bit off with “In My Life” (rearranged for SATB), it’s still a lovely song. Lyrics:

There are places I’ll remember
All my life though some have changed
Some forever not for better
Some have gone and some remain
All these places have their moments
With lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I’ve loved them all

But of all these friends and lovers
There is no one compares with you
And these memories lose their meaning
When I think of love as something new
Though I know I’ll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I’ll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more

Though I know I’ll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I’ll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more
In my life I love you more

Speaking of the camp, tomorrow is preparation day for Training. Grr, I need to review the manual. Shouldn’t have dwelt so long on this blog tonight. Time is rather short… Sigh.

At any rate, I need to sleep. Long day ahead. Go, me.

I really pity those cleaners who have to clean such messes. Gaaah, how old are these girls? 19 at least? They’ve spent 18 years without diapers, is it too much to ask them to be more considerate (SINCE WE’RE SHARING TOILETS?!)

Meh, I have all my things around me that I packed yesterday and today. My stuff’s baaaaack…

Kinda funny but I’ll be going to an Inauguration not my own. Ah well.

I’m not looking forward to unpacking.

—

I wonder how I’ve come to need so much stuff? I guess I never learned how to pack one suitcase to leave it all behind. I’m settled. I’m not going to go anywhere.

I know I really did pack just one suitcase (and a small shoebag and a computer case) of things when I just need to stay over in Eusoff during the Matric Fair.

I think, a bare room bothers me. It’s unlived in. You have nothing to define yourself. You are not there. Maybe things are evidence that you are around. How much can you tell of a person just by looking at their room?

I wonder why I feel more at ease when I see all my stuff when I get back. Weird isn’t it? Is that why we feel that possessions can be so important to one? At least the presence of it.

In a general sort of way, Buddhism tells us not to become attached to our possessions for desire is a cage in which you trap yourself in. I guess that’s a warning to us about remembering what is really important (spiritual development, anyone?) How do I reconcile my psychological dependence on material things then?

Perhaps one way of doing so is not to fall into that habit of mind. Material things are generally transitory, it’s not as though you’ll have it forever. To think of things as disposable would probably help. I can probably replace every one of my things should there be a time when I need to leave it behind. Maybe not the ones of sentimental value but those are things that are tied to memory and emotions: at least those two would be left.

Some things of sentimental value I have:

1) The arrowhead that Mrs. Dillard gave me when I left for Singapore. She said it was an arrowhead that the American Indians used to use. She told me a whole, long story about it but, sadly, I have forgotten much of it since then…

2) Various letters and cards from friends.

3) My journal before I switched to blogging.

4) Writing I did in 5th grade.

5) My old school uniforms.

6) The Chinese knots necklaces that my mom made (though most of the beads have fallen off).

7) My class photos.

8) A panda stuffed toy. The very first item I bought myself with my allowance.

9) A book I made in 2nd grade.

10) James and the Giant Peach that Mrs. Thompson left me when she left in 2nd grade.

11) A birthday present from XZ, of folded cranes with her hand-written messages inside.

12) Songs that KK sent me.

13) The Return of the King from Serene and Hui Qing. They were the first friends who gave me a book for my birthday.

14) That Dilbert book Avex gave me for my birthday. Hahah, weaseling.

15) My yearbooks. I really love to look at the SIS ones. It had individual photos of my old classmates.

16) A hard-won wrist pouch from getting full marks in 听写 (listening and writing??) in primary school. It was the first and last time I ever got full marks there. A small triumph over the Chinese language.

17) A note that Mrs. Lim (nee Neo) gave each of us.

These are the ones I can think of, off the top of my head. A lot of it are stuff from friends. I guess I’m the sort who’ll keep the stuff that people give me. Sigh, I should really keep all this stuff together in case I ever lose it. One of these days, I’m going to knit a bag just for it.

You know, I was looking at the number of posts for this blog and blogger tells me that I have 720 posts. Wow! 720! I wonder how many words that make up. Let’s see, I’ve been keeping this blog regularly since JC 2. It’s been 3 years, I suppose. I wonder if there’s a limit to the number of posts…

I can feel the impending (doom) term.

I’m going to be moving back at the end of the month. I’m half happy, half sad. I will definitely miss having family around but I’m also looking forward to having all (most?) of my time to myself again. I’ll miss my books and our lovely clean kitchen. It’s nice to sleep with aircon on at night.

I wonder who my roommate will be. I hope she’s nice. I guess that’s the best we can hope for… I haven’t been unlucky enough yet to live with someone I can’t stand.

I’m kinda looking forward to doing my own laundry. Weird but it was a therapeutic excercise, particularly the ironing. Man, I love to iron my clothes. At home, my mom doesn’t bother so, it kinda developed that we don’t iron unless we need to (when we go out, etc). But I like that nice feeling of carrying up my still-warm clothes up to my room to put in my wardrobe drawers. There’s that nice, fresh smell of washed laundry too.

Although C313 may not be the best room, it’s become the one I’m most used to. I’m just glad I could have my old room back again. I like how it can be quite warm… I really hate cold rooms much much more than hot rooms. (Aircon doesn’t count since I have my warm blankets to curl under which is the nicest.) Especially with the raining season… My room the warmth oasis. I hope my roommate likes to keep the windows closed.

One more week before we have to help with the packing. Sigh. Time is going too fast, too fast… There are new things to look forward to – seniors (now juniors) from JC, new modules, new position in CBLC (I have my reservations about this), etc.

And no more law and business! Sigh… so I guess I won’t be seeing some people like XZ, Vasud, by chance. But be sure I will take any opportunity to take a Law-Main Campus bus might present, mwahahah…

I finished the fishing, first aid and cooking artisan quests. First aid was really easy, since I got the hang of it since Aramaki did it. Fishing was surprisingly easy. I only had to travel quite a long way over two continents. For cooking, it was just to get my mage to kill a few rocs in Tanaris and those Naga in Feralas. Easy. Yeah, I cheated but the ingredients are really a pain in the ass to get. And finally, I threw money at the Cheese Shop in SW. I’m still working on leatherworking. It’s at 200 (finally) and can do stuff with thick leather! Just 25 skill points to go…

Other than that, AH has been pretty good, I have enough for a mount (yay!) And btw, I got it wrong, it’s not 40% but 60% increased movement speed. So, it’s actually double what Aspect of Cheetah can do… Hmm, I’m just picturing what it’ll be like. My female hunter Night-Elf on a Nightsaber along with Theodore the white bear (albino black bear?) Oh the shininess…

Gerald gave me a nice Carmina Burana song. A drinking song! When I first heard it, I was really surprised. Yay, I can’t wait for him to burn me a copy of his dvd. (Btw, Carmina Burana is famous for its “O Fortuna”.) And it just happened the people singing were men. I do prefer to listen to male voices. Maybe I have an affinity for deep tones (Alto 2 ftw).

The nice thing about burning someone else’s (CS’s actually) CD collection is that iTunes on shuffle would throw up entirely new songs for me to hear. Actually, this song I heard is from my 100 Greatest Guitar Solos and is called “Stash” by Phish. I have no idea who this band is but this song is great (greatest even!) There were quite a few other J-pop songs which I liked but forgot to take note of the names. It’s a bit annoying though that shuffle would tend to play FF songs (I don’t really like to hear non-vocal tracks on shuffle) which are all instrumentals.

I saw OK Go’s CDs in HMV. Tempting stuff. But there’s so many many other stuff in HMV too. I saw Black Adder on VCD. There was a $12++ set of “Be With You” and “Nobody Knows”. Actually, I’m not really interested in “Be With You” except that Orange Range had sung the ending song which was intriguing when I first heard it. Gaarh… I should really get that set, one way or another. I saw Belle & Sebastian but of course the prices hadn’t went down or anything. Meh, expensive… I wanted to find the original singer of “Candy Rain”. I couldn’t really remember what his name was at the time but knew it was especially long and I scoured the J-pop section for it. No luck. But that kinda reminded me of the days when I searched for fantasy books in 2nd hand bookshops. Got my blood pumping once again, to tell the truth.

I was also pleasantly surprised to find that they were selling “The Valdemar Companion” over at Kino. To tell the truth, the entries weren’t as entertaining as “The Discworld Companion” but more than make up for it with a novella and interviews with Mercedes Lackey. Probably guaranteed to satisfy any fangirl.

I was reading “Exile’s Honor” that I had borrowed from the library. It’s nice to read more about the Weaponmaster.

I also read “Phoenix and Ashes”. It read more like a romance novel than fantasy. Actually, most of her Elemental books are kinda like that. Not really as fun…

I read more Pratchett. I guess I’m still interested in fantasy. There was just so much catching up to do with Mercedes Lackey. It’s a been a couple of years since I followed her books closely and I guess they’ve piled up. I think, the quality of her books hadn’t really improved and I still like to go back to the Vanyel books. Sigh. I did enjoy Alberich and Skif books though. Although not as bad as David Eddings, some of her stories can get a bit repetitive.

Note to self: Add my new book into the Booklist.

Here is my ending paragraph. Good night all.
