Games Convention Asia

I was at the GCA today with my bro and we had a lot of fun previewing/playing new games. And OMG, they had a Rayman Raving Rabbids TV Party stand!!! I didn’t get to play it but I saw others there and it looks like it’s as fun as always! Waaaah! I want to play! I hope I’ll get the chance on Saturday.

The DotA match was no fun at all, sigh. The sentinel team was just raping up the kills and it was obviously going to be GG 20 minutes into the game. When we left, Sentinel was up 52 kills while Scourge was at 5 kills. Sad.

At least it turns out that the WoW live raid hasn’t been entirely cancelled but just moved to Saturday.

My brother liked this game called Mirror’s Edge a lot. It’s a PS3 first person game where you play a courier who does a lot of urban climbing. Pretty interesting since it’s about the 2nd first person game (I’m thinking after Portal) to move away from shooters. I think he totally fell in love with it and wants to get a PS3 just so he can play that game >_>

We received some VIP passes from Alvin (of Alvinologist) and so we could get into the business convention, though it excluded the conference >_< Aww, the talks held seem pretty interesting with quite a few developers leading panels. At least Student Day is free!

Rock Band and Guitar Hero figured highly at the convention. I tried GH for a bit but I kinda sucked at it. But! It also tempted me to get my own so that I can practice at home! Hahah… Maybe I should go pick up my classical guitar up again, hahah, instead of playing fake music. Still, rhythm games are one of the games I have a weakness for.

Hmm, other than that, I played a bit of HoM&M V which totally sucked. I remembered playing HoM&M III a few years back and it was one of the few turn-based games I found fun. #5 sucked because it had a terrible control system and I kept thinking, “What’s the point??? You might as well make it real-time! And it looks like a lousy WC3 rip-off!”

EA was promoting a new The Sims 2 expansion (yet again, bleaaaaagh!) and also some MySims online thingy. Nothing interesting there. There were a few TCGs around (one WoW, the other some obscure name I quickly forgot). Comics Connection looked like they were making a killing at their booth… I never saw them without customers buying their products. They were offering a Red Alert 3 pre-order while also selling some of the released games featured at the con. Smart right?

Oh yes, Warhammer Online looked disappointing. The supposed “WoW-killer” is anything but. Frankly, I just didn’t like the look of it and fighting seems pretty static. Just stand in front of the enemy and hack away. Blaaaah, no use moving about.

My brother said that the controls for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed was pretty bad. He said he was disappointed in the game. Ah well, at least we have a sample of all this stuff. Also, avoid Space Siege. While I played it, everything seemed boring and slow. The movement speed for your character sucks to high hell.

Note that my short play times doesn’t allow me to get through the story so for all I know, these games may have a great storyline which makes up for the lousy gameplay (except HHoM&M V which was filled with long pointless cliche and disjointed cutscenes. Gaarrh.) There were a few free MMOs around too but I didn’t bother to play them. I think I like WoW too much. Sigh. There’s gotta be a way for me to resolve my computer problems so I can start again. >_< Sigh… I’m seriously considering a clean reinstall of XP. Much as I like Ubuntu, Wine doesn’t run Windows programs very well (though I feel there was a vast improvement over last time.)
