Leaving on a Jet Plane

Lyrics to title above and OK Go’s songs.

(Please, not the Armageddon version, anything’s better than that. Much wailing and gnashing of teeth would that one result.)

All my bags are packed I’m ready to go
I’m standing here outside your door
I hate to wake you up to say goodbye
But the dawn is breaking and it’s early morn’
The taxi’s waiting he’s blowing his horn
Already I’m so lonesome I could cry

So kiss me and smile for me
Tell me that you’ll wait for me
Hold me like you’ll never let me go

I’m leaving on a jet plane
I don’t know when I’ll be back again
Oh babe I hate to go

There’s so many times I’ve let you down
So many times I’ve played around
I tell you now they don’t mean a thing
Every song I’ll sing I’ll sing for you
Every place I’ll go I’ll think of you
When I come home I’ll wear your wedding ring

So kiss me and smile for me
Tell me that you’ll wait for me
Hold me like you’ll never let me go

I’m leaving on a jet plane
I don’t know when I’ll be back again
Oh babe I hate to go

Now the time has come to leave you
One more time let me kiss you
Then close your eyes and I’ll be on my way
Think about the days to come when I won’t have to leave alone
About the times I won’t hear me say

Kiss me and smile for me
Tell me that you’ll wait for me
Hold me like you’ll never let me go

I’m leaving on a jet plane
I don’t know when I’ll be back again
Oh babe I hate to go

I’m leaving on a jet plane
I don’t know when I’ll be back again
Oh babe I hate to go

This was one of my first guitar pieces that we had to learn. I never really felt the chords sound right.

It’s unfortunate but I had only ever heard the one from Armageddon. Meeh, that was a sad, sad scene, I thought (although the singer is major SUCK).

Sad and comparable to:

When I Fall in Love
Celine Dion & Clive Griffin

When I fall in love
It will be forever
Or I’ll never fall in love

In a restless world
Like this is
Love is ended before it’s begun
And too many
Moonlight kisses
Seem to cool in the warmth of the sun

When I give my heart
I give it completely
Or I’ll never give my heart

And the moment I can feel that you feel that way too
Is when I fall in love with you

In other news, OK Go rocks.

Don’t Ask Me

Quit acting so friendly.
Don’t nod don’t laugh all nicely.
Don’t think you’ll up-end me.
Don’t sigh, don’t sip your iced-tea.
And don’t say, “It’s been a while…”
And don’t flash that stupid smile.

Don’t aaaaaaask me,don’t asssssssk me, dont aaaaaaask me,ask me, ask me how I’ve been.

Don’t think I’ve forgotten,
you never liked that necklace.
So cordial, so rotten…
Kiss, kiss, let’s meet for breakfast.
Don’t show up so on-time
and don’t act like you’re so kind

Don’t aaaaaaask me,don’t asssssssk me, dont aaaaaaask me,ask me, ask me how I’ve been.

Don’t sit there and play just
so frank, so straight, so candid,
so thoughtful, so gracious,
so sound, so even-handed.
Don’t be so damn benign
and don’t waste my fucking time.

Don’t aaaaaaask me,don’t asssssssk me, dont aaaaaaask me,ask me, ask me how I’ve been.

You’re So Damn Hot

I saw you sliding out the bar.
I saw you slipping out the back door, baby.
Don’t even try and find a line this time, it’s fine. Darling, you’re still
divine.

You don’t love me at all, but don’t think that it bothers me at all.
You’re a bad-hearted boy-trap, babydoll, but you’re so damn hot youre so damn hot youre so damn hot you’re so damn hot

So now you’re headed to your car.
You say it’s dinner with your sister, sweetie.
But darling look at how you’re dressed.
Your best suggests another kind of guest.

You don’t love me at all, but don’t think that it bothers me at all.
You’re a bad-hearted boy-trap, babydoll, but you’re so damn hot you’re so damn hot you’re so damn hot youre so damn hot

So who’s this other guy you’ve got?
Which other rubes are riding hot-shot, sugar?
I could have swore you said before, “No more, for sure.”
What’d I believe you for?

You don’t love me at all, but don’t think that it bothers me at all.
You’re a bad-hearted boy-trap, babydoll, but you’re so damn hot youre so damn hot youre so damn hot

Shortly Before the End

How long did we all think this all would last?
Who could have counted days as they flew past?
But before we go, sing us a song.
Sing us a song to hum through the hours of dying.

Who would have though it’d come as such a show?
A pink and silver day… who was to know?
Even as we go, sing us a song.
Sing us a song, to hum through the hours of dying.

The Fix Is In

When we got to Boston, we knew we’d missed a turn.
No one back in traffic school had
told us there are signs that can’t be learned.
Geography’s too stubborn and people are too clear,
so let’s go find a road-side motel with a clerk who won’t tell.
Days will turn into nights, nights will turn into days, weeks, seasons, and years.
We’ll stay for years.

Red and white for blood cells, red and white for wine.
They could be the whole damn spectrum if
we’d all just let them. Lord, it’s such a crime…
Working on an inch less waistband in the
strip mall wasteland outside of this town,
or clawing at the penthouse kitchen floor for just one smidgen more,
everybody knows, everybody knows that it’s in.
The fix is in.

Let’s go back to Boston. Forget about the turn.
Atlases and gas station attendants are none of our concern.
We’ll forge a little life dear (oh dear) and double down our debts,
and I guess it stands to reason that the passing seasons will slowly dull regrets.
Working on an inch less waistband in the strip mall wasteland outside of this town,
or clawing at the penthouse kitchen floor for just one smidgen more,
everybody knows, everybody knows that it’s in.
The fix is in.

Hello, My Treacherous Friend (ashke rating:

Bye Bye Baby

“Bye bye, baby” Cybil says as she walks out the door.
You can bet that Hollywood looks oh-so-good,
much better than it ever has before.
So my pets have left me in search of careers and richer soils,
heading off to pure-bred friends and happy ends
and anything to prove I’m disloyal.

It’s not just that I’m selfish and scared,
it’s not just that I’m so unprepared.
It’s just you’d think I’d grow out of this, wouldn’t you?

So take me to winter, as if it was discontent I’d see.
I’ll live with the madmen there and pull my hair
’cause lunacy is everything I need.
